Description

Without a doubt, the Calibre .321 Speedmaster – in any of its forms – is one of the most significant and desirable sport watches of all time, and certainly the most collectable in the Speedmaster range.

The Speedmaster or ‘Speedy’ was first introduced into Omega line-up as a racing and sports chronograph, thus complementing Omega’s position as the official timekeeper for the Olympic Games. The “ Speedy” proved to be a useful tool, with its 1/5th of a second chronograph. Very rare and extremely desirable, this 1st year reference S105.012 Pre-Moon Speedmaster Calibre .321 offers up that ever so sought after all over matching patina. It’s all about the details and this 1963 Speedmaster has it all!

Original & untouched, the stepped black dial is in pristine condition and has the very rare close spaced T’s around the Swiss Made text.  Also present is the period correct applied metal Omega logo and baton hands including the speared chronograph seconds hand. The tritium luminous remains even throughout and mostly intact while it has achieved in some markers a near pale orange hue over the decades. The Hesalite crystal is remarkably mint with only some slight scratches.

This amazingly rare ‘63 Speedy is not only equipped with the fabled Calibre .321 but also happens to be a A2 transitional asymmetric clutch bridge calibre .321, which only 2000 examples have been know to be built*

The ever so iconic Speedy black BASE 500 DO90 bezel is in remarkable condition with only some slight scratches, the most important being a dent on the outer rim at the 60 marker. Take note that once again every little detail is present, the dot over 90, the dot next to 70 and finally the accent on the E in tachymètre.

Moving over to the case, we have an unpolished 1st year asymmetric case made by Huguenin Freres with clear lines, fitted to a double stepped case back with the hippocamp & Speedmaster engravings. Correctly sized 5mm x 3mm short pushers and 7mm crown. Note that the back side of the case, where the case back screws in, has seen some corrosion that has eaten small chips of metal. Rest assured that the seal has protected the movement which is unscathed.
